Upon entering the vast void of potential of the Unity editor you will likely be met with this view.

Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba!

This is great and all but you would benefit greatly from a layout that lends itself to greater productivity. A common professional layout can be set by first changing the Layout in the top right corner to Tall.

And you will now have something that looks like this.

So much room for activities!

Next you will want to split the Scene and Game view in the top left by clicking and dragging the Game tab down until it separates into its own view.

Now as you edit things in the Scene you will also see how it will look in the game immediately.

You may want to change the aspect ratio of the Game view to 16:9 as that’s a common aspect ratio for many devices and let’s you consistently preview how your game would look on those screens.

Another handy tip might be to change the Project section to show only one column for a cleaner view.

When you’ve completed all these tweaks, you should have something that looks like this:

Click on Layout in the top right corner again to save it with a custom name.

And that’s it. Now you’ll have a layout view where everything is easy to see at a glance.
