Get Started With Unity

First things first, let’s go get Unity. Specifically, the Unity Hub, which is a handy feature they’ve introduced to manage different versions of Unity on your machine at a glance.

Head over to Unity, and as it prompts, get started!

You’ll be asked to pick some plans. Unless you’re secretly a whole AAA dev studio in a trenchcoat, go with Individual → Personal.

The next page asks if you want to get started with a guided learning path. The project looks like a LEGO game and honestly that’s kind of cool and you will have a project to poke around in. But picking either option will allow you to download the Unity Hub setup exe.

Run the setup like any other setup, and start Unity Hub. Head to Installs to manage the specific versions of Unity you want to install.

Next it will show all available versions for download. Go with the recommended latest.

Then it will show all the modules

You’ll need Visual Studio if you have no other C# IDE (I already have it) but everything else is subject to your project requirements. Then get a hot drink and let it download and install for a bit.

Once done, head back to Projects → New

Choose a cool name for your project, your project’s location, and a template (2D and 3D are more than enough for our humble purposes) and you’re off to the races!
